The Story…This story affects all women and as you read and view the story you will soon understand why. But before we tell you this horrific tale, first a little background…Merrill and his wife, Dibor, moved to Arizona from Ohio about 2 years ago. She is a 48 year old professional nurse, a naturalized U.S. Citizen who studied for and passed her U.S. Citizenship test in 2006 and SHE HAS NO CRIMINAL RECORD (at least until this abhorrent police fiasco!) Merrill, her husband, is a great journalistic photographer. It’s truly amazing all the people this man has photographed over the years: http://getyourhistoricalpictureshere.com Here’s the story:On July 29, 2007, Dibor was driving home from work late at night, along a desolate stretch of very dark highway when an officer attempted to pull her over. Being afraid after all the news reports of gangs impersonating police officers in the Phoenix area, she attempted to keep going until she could get to a well-lit area to pull over. The story is too horrendous to try and tell in complete details here, but the long and short of it is that after FORCING her to stop, the officer drew his gun, then smashed in a passenger side window and attempted to physically yank this frightened 120-pound woman out of her car - causing her foot to come off the brake and making her car jerk forward into his. Read the story here: www.kpho.com/iteam/13804827/detail.html. Dibor was jailed, was charged with “Unlawful Flight” and “Resisting Arrest.” Dibor HAD slowed down considerably and the officer should have followed her to a well-lit area and then if need be forced the stop. An Important Note Officers should KNOW better. What is the universal sign for “I know you want me to pull over but I’m afraid you might be a criminal so I’m going to keep driving for 15 miles until I find some street lights”? The trial took place on May 14-15-16 and, to the surprise and horror of friends and neighbors, the jury found her guilty on both counts. She is currently filing an appeal. To help with legal expenses, contributions may be sent to Dibor Roberts, PO Box 3994, Cottonwood AZ 86326. |
